“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney
Why This Quote Matters
This quote, one of my favorites from Walt Disney, sits on the wall of my office and has long inspired both my personal and professional life. It’s not just aspirational—it’s instructive. Dreams are beautiful, but without courage, they often stay stuck in our minds and hearts.
In this episode, I reflect on the incredible life and legacy of Walt Disney—his many setbacks, bankruptcies, and losses—and how he persevered with an unwavering belief in his vision. He practiced courage, learned from mistakes, and kept moving forward. That’s what turned his dreams into reality.
Defining Your Own Dream
But let’s bring it back to us. What does your dream look like right now? It doesn’t have to be massive. It might be working fewer hours, asking for a promotion, pivoting careers, or launching something creative. The dream is yours—and courage is what will move it forward.
What Courage Really Looks Like
Courage is not the absence of fear. It’s taking action despite the fear, discomfort, or self-doubt. It’s speaking up, reframing limiting beliefs, pivoting when needed, and trusting yourself—often before the confidence fully arrives.
The Roadblocks We Face
And sure, there are roadblocks: fear of failure or success, imposter syndrome, inner critics, societal messages, and old stories that tell us we’re not enough. But that’s where awareness comes in. As I’ve said before, it takes more than courage—it also takes clearing the way mentally, trusting yourself, and acting intentionally.
My Own Lessons in Courage
I’ve had moments in my career when I didn’t tap into my courage—when I stayed quiet, disengaged, or didn’t advocate for my vision. And I paid a price for that. I’ve also worked with so many coaching clients who’ve taken courageous steps—and seen transformational results. The difference isn’t the size of the dream—it’s the decision to act.
So here’s your reminder: Your version of a dream is valid, meaningful, and worth pursuing. Start by getting clear on what you want. Visualize your future self. Then take one small, brave action—especially if it scares you.
This work—the work of helping leaders step into their full, human, impactful selves—this is my dream. And like Walt, I believe in it so much that I’m willing to keep taking courageous steps to bring it to life.
What Do You Think?
