Here is another part of our Pixie Dust Pep Talk series—short, meaningful reminders that leadership isn’t always loud or flashy. Sometimes, it’s soft. Subtle. Intentional. Especially when life feels overwhelming.

The Pressure to Be Bold

In leadership, there's often pressure to do the big things—solve big problems, make bold moves, have all the answers. And when we don’t, it can feel like we’re not doing enough. But here’s the truth: some of the most impactful leadership moments are the small, almost invisible ones.

Examples of Small But Mighty Leadership

→ It might be a quick check-in with a teammate who seems off.
→ A note of appreciation you almost didn’t send.
→ The decision to pause before reacting.
→ Or even just saying, “I don’t know.”

These tiny things matter. They ripple.

The Power of Micro-Moments

Think about a time when a small gesture stuck with you—a smile from a stranger, a well-timed text from a friend, a boss who said they believed in you. Those are the moments we remember.

I think about a Magic Monday message I send out each week. I’ve been doing it for five years, and sometimes I wonder if people even read it. Then, someone will respond with a “thank you,” and I’m reminded that those small offerings matter.

Or I think about my first HR job back in 1997, and my boss David Rice. One early morning, in the face of tragedy, he led with vulnerability. That moment changed how I view leadership. It showed me the power of being human—and how even quiet strength can lead with impact.

You Don’t Have to Give 110% Every Day

Here’s the invitation: Notice the small things. The micro-moments. The choices no one else sees. That’s where trust is built. That’s how culture is created. That’s sustainable, meaningful leadership.

Some days 40% might be your 100%. B-minus work still matters. If all you do today is breathe, pause before you respond, or quietly show up—you’re leading.

A Final Reminder

I’ll end with this quote from William James:
“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”

You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be present.
