Happy Monday!
I’m not quite sure how it’s June already. It feels like May came and went in a flash! In my world – it’s been quite busy. We have been in full grad party prep mode, as our oldest is graduating high school!
If you've ever stood at one of those transition moments, you know the feeling. There is pride, there is nostalgia, and there is bittersweetness. And of course – the question of how did we get here so fast?
It feels like a good moment for this quote from Laverne, one of the gargoyles from Disney’s 1996 animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame:
Transitions can do funny things to us. We can get so caught up in watching things change (watching our kids grow up, watching opportunities come and go, watching other people take the leap we keep thinking about) that we might forget that we can actually be in the game!
And when we take on the observer role – we hyperfocus on the highlight reel of others. Their promotion, their confidence, their “they’ve got it all figured out” persona. Comparison is the sneakiest way to hand over control. When we are focused on their life, their game – we’ve stepped out of our own.
Here’s what I know - you are the only one with the power to direct your story. No one else can play your position. You just have to decide to play.
So, let’s get in the game! Your life is happening right now.
