Happy Monday!
I’ve long been intrigued by the idea of “playing small” - holding yourself back from your full potential for all kinds of reasons. It's probably because I know it so well. I’ve ‘practiced’ it for so long.
And navigating the ways to break through has been long, evolving and so very worth it.
We might think that some of the why behind playing small is because of external circumstances: What others expect. What they might think. What makes them comfortable - or uncomfortable. What they say. How they act around us.
But at the root is actually something very internal. It’s a lack of self-confidence. A lack of self-belief. A lack of self-worth. A lack of self-love. A need to feel safe.
And so we shrink. We play small.
Here’s the good news: – Playing small is not inevitable. – You have the power to rewrite your story.
It starts with gentle awareness, fueled by a radical desire for more. It takes a willingness to get real, get uncomfortable, and take bold, courageous action.
And a good mantra.
So – I’ll offer this one as told to Rey by Princess Leia in the 2019 film, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker:
Never be afraid of who you are.
The world needs your gifts. It needs you - fully you.
