This episode follows last week’s conversation (Ep. 195) on overwhelm and control. When the world feels like it’s spinning faster than we can keep up, our first move is awareness. The next move—the one that creates momentum—is choosing where to double down.

A Quick Recap: What’s In vs. Out of Your Control

In your control: mindset, self‑talk, presence, values in action, energy, boundaries, focus, self‑care habits, and asking for support.
Not in your control: other people’s actions, thoughts, emotions, decisions, expectations; the past; and many external events (economy, politics, weather). Influence is possible—control is not.

Awareness is powerful, but awareness without action leaves us swirling. Once you know what’s yours to own, the key question is: Where will I intentionally pour my energy right now?

What “Doubling Down” Really Means

Doubling down isn’t about more tasks; it’s focused action that aligns with your values and creates the biggest ripple. I think of it as focus with heart—consistent, intentional investment in what matters most.

How to Find Your Focus

Check your fuel. What’s driving you—fear, frustration, service, purpose? Choose a fuel you want more of.
Name life‑giving vs. energy‑draining. Favor what gives energy; cross off what depletes you.
Align with values. If it’s not aligned, it will drain you. (Need a refresh? Grab my free Core Values worksheet on my site—link in show notes.)

Where I’m Doubling Down

1) Self‑Care. Early morning strength/cardio 4–5x/week, a weekly 5K, walks, intentional nutrition, earlier bedtime, 100–120 oz of water (pre‑filled bottles), meditation/quiet time/reading, and support from a coach. These habits keep me grounded when life gets loud.
2) Shaping the World of Leadership. Championing human leadership rooted in self‑awareness, compassion, empathy, and curiosity. Not a check‑the‑box program—an ongoing “beneath the surface” journey.
3) Creating Change Daily. I can’t control the headlines, but I can control my actions, service, and voice. That requires continual self‑work to move past limiting beliefs.

Also on my radar: stronger boundaries, everyday kindness, and small, consistent action (over perfection).

A Leadership Lens: Where Teams Feel It

Leaders who double down on clarity (repeat vision/priorities), presence (be genuinely available), recognition (help people feel seen), resilience (model healthy stress navigation), and courageous conversations create the stability and connection people crave.

Your Turn: Name It, Share It, Act

Choose 1–3 areas worth doubling down on. Define what that looks like, share it with someone who can hold you accountable, and begin with one small step today. When you double down on what you can control, you strengthen character through integrity, confidence through action, and connection through compassion. That’s leadership magic.
