Happy Monday!
As I write this, I’m looking out the car window at the beauty of the changing Minnesota leaves (don’t worry—I’m the passenger 😀). It's nice to slow down and simply notice the moment.
And…I’m also thinking about choice.
Luthen Rael from the Disney+ series Andor - not exactly a household name, but full of wisdom - captures this perfectly when he says:
How often do we move through our days on autopilot - responding, reacting, following routines - without realizing that we’re choosing? Or taking on others’ expectations and options as if there isn’t another way?
It’s easy to forget that almost everything we do, think, or say is a choice. → We choose how to interpret feedback. → We choose how to show up in a meeting. → We choose whether to assume the best or brace for the worst. → We even choose our silence or our voice.
Luthen’s line hits because it names what so many of us forget: our agency. Awareness itself is the very foundation.
As leaders (and humans), remembering that we have a choice can be transformative - even when the circumstances aren’t ideal or the options feel limited or when emotion runs high
Life (and leadership) isn’t about having control over everything. It’s about owning the choices within your control - and making them with clarity and courage.
And just like the changing leaves that I’m looking at right now - our choices are always shifting too. The magic lies in noticing them and choosing with intention.
