Happy Monday!
I’m often asked what my favorite Disney movie, character, or park is. My response is always the same — I don’t do favorites! I have unique reasons for loving lots! One movie and character of the same name that I truly do love is Moana. Her sense of purpose, determination and independence are motivating!
The movie is full of great quotes, including this one from Moana herself:
She’s standing on her boat, facing the unknown, trusting what she’s learned from those who came before her - and from her own journey. It’s such a beautiful reminder that our past isn’t something to run from. It’s something to listen to.
So often, when we think about the past, we go straight to regret - what we should’ve done differently, what we didn’t say, what we wish had gone another way. But what if we flipped that? What if every misstep, every awkward conversation, every tough time of life was simply part of the journey that helps us navigate today a little more knowledgeably?
In leadership (and life), the past can show us patterns worth keeping and ones worth shifting. It can reveal our growth and it can remind us that we’ve already weathered hard things and come out stronger.
Moana didn’t know exactly where she was going - she just knew she was meant to keep going. And maybe that’s enough for us, too!
