Happy Monday!
I love living in the world of self-awareness. It certainly isn’t all rainbows and daisies – but it gives me the clarity I need to show up as the leader and human I want to be. And it’s an honor to guide others through that as well.
There are lots of inspiring quotes that speak to the gifts of knowing who you are, but I really love the comical spin that Rocket Raccoon from the 2014 Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy gives it:
In leadership (and life), it’s easy to compare ourselves to others. We look at the loudest voice in the room, the most polished presentation, the unwavering decision-maker, and wonder if we should be like them. Our brain is just trying to be kind to us – but in a way that isn’t always helpful. Because the truth is, there is no one else who carries your unique mix of experience, perspective, and personality.
Your team or community doesn’t need a copy of someone else’s style and gifts. They need you - your way of showing up.
So this week, instead of measuring yourself against someone else’s style, lean into Rocket’s wisdom: there really ain’t no thing like you, except you.
